UPNP disabled on modem - does that affect the performance?

Post by PatriciaP »

I am concerned that upnp enabled on the modem/router opens up the network to port forwarding by malware.

Is upnp essential to the YAMS function?

PS As I don't intend to use Usenet or torrents I won't set up a VPN as part of the media server. I may put the media access behind a different SSID however.
I have a standard ISP modem from Virginmedia UK

Thanks for reading

Hey @PatriciaP!

Port forwarding is never necessary (I certainly don't use it and everything is fine). If you don't plan to use Torrents and/or Usenet (and even if you do!), then you should be completely fine
